The footballers of Colaiste Pobail had mixed fortunes in their Cork PPS Co Championship fixtures this week. On Tuesday the Senior Ladies qualified for the Vo Semi Fibal when they defeated their Beara neighbours Scoil Phobail Bheara in a tightly contested game . The U16 boys were not as successful, having been level at full time , but were unable to come back in extra time after Colaiste Colm scored a few quick goals in extra time.

Well done to our senior ladies football team who beat Scoil Phobail Bheara yesterday in the county quarter final. It was a cracking game from start to finish with both teams trading scores for most of the match. Meadhbh Sammon opened scoring for CPB after five minutes raising a white flag after great team work. She added a further goal and two points before half time. Maggie Kingston got the first goal for CPB on the ten minute mark. Grace Kingston in goals made some vital saves. Emma Kelly and Katie Russell added important points also. The half time score was CPB 2-5 SPB 1-3. Beara came into the game more in the second half scoring several really well worked goals but CPB replied to each one with a goal of their own, Lainey Barry scoring the three second half goals. Excellent defending from all the backs was crucial with Kerrie O’Connell,Molly O’Sullivan, Anna O’Brien and Cliodhna O’Shea giving a defensive masterclass. Molly Harrington and Caoimhe O’Shea were a great outlet for goal kicks and they linked play really well with the forwards. Aoidhe Murphy, Aoife Kingston and Ali O’Sullivan all got themselves on the scoresheet with well taken points after tireless work from other players such as Elaine McSweeney and Jasmine Ellis in the forwards. It was a nail biting finish as the teams were level going into injury team but CPB showed great determination to ensure victory on a score line of 5-8 to 5-6. Thanks to SPB for a really sporting game! It was an excellent performance from the whole team and they can now look forward to a semi final in the coming weeks . Well done ladies!

Cork Post Primary U16 B Football Championship - Report from Colaiste Pobail

Commiserations to our u16 Footballers who were defeated after extra time to Coláiste Choilm Ballincollig.
CPB headed into the game as underdogs as the Ballincollig outfit dropped from A grade this year. But an early penalty from Oisin Murphy, who went on to kick 2-9 throughout the 80minutes, settled CPB into the game. CPB defence was resolute throughout, lead by Paddy Russell, Conor Daly & Killian Hurley. Colaiste Choilm however did kick some fine scores from distance to take an early advantage. Billy Sheehan won a great turnover and setup Oisin Murphy for his 2nd goal of the day to keep our lads in the game. At the short whistle, Colaiste Choilm had built up a 6 point lead. CPB however took command at the start of the 2nd half, with Luke O Sullivan distributing some excellent short restarts while Cathal McCarthy gave an exhibition in midfield. Upfront Sean O Sullivan, who was a constant thorn in the Ballincollig defence, kicked a couple of fine scores. The big moment came when quick thinking from Oisin Murphy played a close free short to DJ O’Brien, who rifled a shot into the bottom corner of the net to put our boys in front. Colaiste Choilm kicked the next 3 scores to put them back in the lead, before Oisin Murphy showed great composure to score a last minute free from a difficult angle and force extra time. Having put a huge effort into the 2nd half, extra time proved a step too far for our lads, with Colaiste Choilm scoring a couple of goals in the first period of extra time which put the result beyond a resilient CPB side. Not to be on the day, but our lads can be incredibly proud of their performance.
