Our Junior Ladies faced off against Erins Own in the park this morning for the penultimate game of this year's Junior A County Championship.
This was a must win game for the Girls in Blue to keep them in contention for a place in this year's final and after a solid performance they came away with another valuable win.
Bantry opened the scoring with a well worked point on five minutes before Erins Own opened their account with a point in the ninth minute.
Despite the heavy conditions underfoot both sides were playing some lovely football with Bantry registering further points in the eleventh and fifteenth minutes before Erins Own replied on nineteen minutes.Bantry were starting to gain the upper hand around the middle of the field and were much more accurate in front of goal and three further points saw them forge ahead.
Erins Own replied with a pointed free on thirty two minutes but a fine point on thirty four minutes saw the Girls in Blue close out the first half leading on a scoreline of 0.7 to 0.4.
Erins Own opened the scoring for the second half with a point on three minutes but the reply from Bantry was instant.
A purple patch saw them hit 1.2 without reply as they took this game to the opposition.A point on seventeen minutes kept Erins Own in touch but fresh legs off the bench saw the Girls in Blue drive on with two more points to extend their advantage.Erins Own were awarded a penalty in the twenty fifth minute which they converted but again Bantry's reply was to notch up two further points and although Erins Own pressed hard to get something from this game, the Bantry defence stood firm and the Girls in Blue came away with the win on a scoreline of 1.13 to 1.8 after an impressive display.
So a third win on the bounce for this group who now go into a top of the table clash away to Dohenys on Sunday 21st at 12pm.
