Our Junior Ladies faced off against Erins Own in their final group game of this year's Junior A County Championship campaign in The Park this afternoon.
This was a must win game for Bantry after suffering defeat in their opening two games, but it was Erins Own who emerged victorious after a very competitive match.
With the wind at their backs Erins Own opened the scoring with a point in the second minute and were two points to the good after seven minutes before Bantry opened their account with a pointed free in the ninth minute.
Both teams were struggling to cope with the greasy conditions underfoot, but Erins Own were proving to be more clinical in front of goal and went in at half time leading on a scoreline of 0.6 to 0.1.
Again the second half of this game proved to be very competitive with Bantry starting strongly with a very well worked goal in the second minute.They followed up with a point a minute later to put bare minimum between the sides.
Erins Own replied with their first score of the second half on seven minutes before Bantry were again on the scoreboard with another point in ninth minute.
Both sides were playing some lovely football despite the difficult conditions with Erins Own just edging affairs going into the last ten minutes.
Bantry were pushing hard now to get something from this game but Erins Own were able to hold on for a four point win on a scoreline of 0.12 to 1.5.
This game showed a big improvement from the girls in blue which should give them confidence going into their relegation play off game in which they will be bidding to retain their Junior A status for next season.
