Our Junior 2 ladies faced off against St. Finbarrs in their County league final in the park yesterday evening and after a fantastic performance the girls in Blue came away with a super win to take the honours on the night.
Bantry started this game very strongly and registered their first score with a pointed free inside the first minute.
Two more points were to follow before a cracking goal in the fifth minute put them well in control.St. Finbarrs opened their account with a point on six minutes but Bantry were defending solidly and moving the ball beautifully which gave their inside lines ample opportunities to keep the scoreboard ticking over.
Another fantastic goal in the sixteenth minute saw them forge further ahead and they went in at half time leading on a scoreline of 2.9 to 0.3
The second have of this game proved to be a much tighter affair as St.Finbarrs threw everything at Bantry to try and get back into the match.
Bantry opened the second half scoring with well taken points in the twelfth and sixteenth minutes before St.Finbarrs were awarded a penalty in the twentieth minute.
This was the lifeline the Barrs were looking for but failed to convert as their effort was superbly saved by Bantry goalkeeper Ella Foley.
St.Finbarrs scored their first point of the second half on twenty two minutes but Bantry were defending ferociously and indeed scores were at a premium for both teams as both sets of players gave it their all.
Bantry now started to bring fresh legs in off the bench and as in previous games their blend of youth and experience proved to be a key factor in closing out this game.
Another point from the girls in Blue on twenty seven minutes kept them at arms length and despite St.Finbarrs scoring the last point of the game in the twenty ninth minute,Bantry had done enough to take the spoils thanks to a superb effort from each and every one of their players.
After the game Bantry Captain Myra Downey received the cup from referee Conor McCarthy much to the delight of the Bantry supporters to spark a night of celebration for this fantastic group of players.
A hearty congratulations to everyone involved.
