The Bantry Blues and St Colum’s amalgamation of Cill Mochomóg made history in the Clóna Milk Carbery U21 B championship hurling final in Dunmanway.
A first-ever adult hurling title was just reward for two clubs that came together to field an U21 team in this year’s West Cork B championship.
Overcoming another amalgamation, Ahán Gaels, made up of the St Mary’s and Diarmuid O’Mathuna’s clubs, Cill Mochomóg had nine points to spare at the conclusion of an entertaining contest.
Caolán O’Donovan’s free-taking accuracy kept a young Ahán Gaels within touching distance but there could be no denying Cill Mochomóg’s victory.
The winners led from pillar to post, ahead by nine at both the short and final whistles.

Cork U20 footballer Dara Sheedy was the best player on view. The Bantry Blues forward amassed 2-10 of his side’s total in an all-action display. Goals in either half plus 10 points saw him cause havoc whenever in possession.

Sheedy’s first goal was the moment of the match as the corner forward gathered possession, outpaced two defenders and found the bottom corner of the net. This was far from a one-player victory however, as Shane Murnane, John O’Connell, Dara McCarthy and John Crowley got through a huge amount of work.

Cill Mochomóg were deservedly 0-8 to 1-1 ahead after 15 minutes with Olan Corcoran’s well-taken goal the highlight of a difficult first half for Ahán Gaels. 1-7 from Dara Sheedy and 0-4 from Shane Murnane helped the eventual winners change ends 1-12 to 1-3 in front.

A scrappy third quarter failed to match the quality of the opening half. Cill Mochomóg kept the scoreboard ticking over until the 42nd minute when Dara Sheedy netted his second goal.

Caolán O’Donovan flaoted over a plethora of frees but it wasn’t enough for an Ahán Gaels team to close the gap heading into the closing stages.

The amalgamation ran out comfortable winners and celebrated a historic moment for two West Cork clubs.
