Our U15 ladies travelled to sunny Brinny yesterday evening to play valley Rovers in West Cork league. Although we only had 14 girls available due to holidays and other commitments they displayed the work rate and heart of 15 plus players. Lauren Connell opened the Blues scoring account on the 7th minute with a well taken point which she followed with a free. Valleys had more of the possession for spells but super defending from Ruth Connell, Lucy Harrington and Emma Barry meant they missed some vital scoring opportunities. A free from Caoimhe McCarthy and a well taken score from Faye Hurley left the score at half time Bantry Blues 0-4 to Valley Rovers 0-8. The second half really opened up for both sides with some fantastic scores and football on display. Although Valleys extended their lead further Belle O’Donoghue contributed 1-1, her goal coming after a superb turnover by Ava Clancy with Lauren adding two further points. This narrowed the Valleys lead as Bantry hit their purple patch with great ball winning on display from Muireann O’Leary in the forwards to set up scores. Ciara Kelly worked tirelessly at centre forward driving the Blues forward time and time again. There was more strong defending from Amy Coughlan and Maddie Hodnett with Alannah MacCarthy Dowling providing great link play from defence to the forwards. Ella Foley pulled off a string of great saves in the goals as usual to ensure Valleys had to fight for every score. Caoimhe added her second point before Lucy Harrington found energy in the dying minutes to cooly slot home a goal low into the bottom corner.

Final score was Bantry Blues 2-9 Valley Rovers 2-18. Well done to Valley Rovers. The scoreline does not quite reflect the quality of this game and well done to all the girls on a super team performance!
