Our Junior Ladies travelled to Dunmanway on Sunday last for the semi final of the Division 2 West Cork Championship.

This was a fiercely contested game with the Doheny's girls determined not to lose on their home turf and with a place in the West Cork final up for grabs - both teams gave it their all in a highly competitive and entertaining game of football.

Dohenys got the perfect start with a goal on four minutes but a well taken Megan McSweeny point settled the nerves for Bantry. Dohenys followed up with a quick point but a well finished goal from Molly O Sullivan followed up by two Sarah Bishop points gave the Bantry girls the edge approaching half time despite losing Kate Keevers to an unfortunate injury. On twenty seven minutes Dohenys scored a well worked goal but Bantry responded superbly and a great goal from Aisling Stock on the stroke of a half time saw Bantry leading 2.3 to 2.2 at the break.

The second half of this game was just as tight with Bantry starting brightly with another Megan McSweeny point followed up with three points from the superb Sarah Bishop.

Dohenys however were also taking their scores well and with ten minutes to go this was anyone's game.

Bantry's defence was soaking up the pressure with goalkeeper Mary OShea pulling off some fine saves. Laura OSullivan,Kate McCarthy and Bernadette OFlynn were also putting in a great shift. Cliodhna OShea and Eve Murphy were working tirelessly in midfield but a Doheny's goal in the twenty second minute really put this game in the melting pot.Even though Bantry followed quickly with a point from the impressive Caitlin OMahony the momentum was now with the the girls from Dunmanway and a goal two minutes from full time broke Bantry's hearts with Dohenys winning on a scoreline of 4.6 to 2.8.

This was a battling display from Bantry and even though they came away without the result they can take great heart from a fine performance heading into next Saturday's County League final against Carrigaline.

Molly o Sullivan 1.0, Aisling Stock 1.0, Sarah Bishop 0.5(3 frees), Megan McSweeny 0.2,Caitlin o Mahony 0.1
