2/6/23 Bantry Blues triumph in Newcestown Tussle

In a hard fought contest in very hot humid evening our Junior B panel put in enormous effort to come out on top in this very tough encounter. The blues started well, being 3 points to 1 after 10 minutes, however the home team got their mojo going and for the next 10 minutes kept the blues scoreless while tacking on 2 points to level the game at the 20 minute mark. The blues suffered a minor set back when the referee raised the "carta dubh" to send one of our more experienced players for a 10 minute sós. At 14 men the blues managed to contain the hosts trading points until the 28th minute when Newcestown scored two on the trot to end the half ahead on the minimum of margins. HT 0-05 V 0-04

After the break and back to full complement, the blues started well with two quick points to retake the lead. At this stage the game entered a very cautious stage with teams minding possession & tackling hard when without the ball. This intense play resulted in the man in black repeating his first half marching orders with another black card to another experienced player, but this time it was Newcestown, down to 14 . The hosts eventually broke the 15 minute scoring famine with a point to draw level for the forth time in the game with 6 points apiece. This score by Newcestown seemed to ignite the blues who put in a 5 minute dominant period where they scored four points without reply. In the closing minutes of the game, when bodies were tired the home side were not going to surrender and in the dying minutes reduced the deficit to two points , knowing a last minute goal would steal victory for them. However it was the blues who tagged on a last minute point to see out the game with a three point margin . FT ; Newcestown 0-08 V 0-11 Bantry Blues

THe blues now top the group ( << click to view ) with seven points out of a possible eight. Their next league fixture is against neighbours Glengarriffe in Wolfe Tone Park ( date to be advised )
