U18 Premier 2 League-County Semi-Final

A Clyda Rovers 4-15 Bantry Blues 2-09.

Bantry minors made the long midweek trip up to Mourneabbey to the home of Clyda on Wednesday evening last looking to secure a place in the final this Sunday.

Bantry playing against the wind in the first half were more than holding their own with Conor Cronin and Michael O Donovan competing well in Midfield. Clyda possessing a very tall athletic team had a extremely strong running game. First half was a battle and with points coming from Jack Sheedy, Fionn o Donovan, Billy Sheehan and a goal from Alex Cronin the half score of 2-09 to 1-07 to Clyda gave the blues optimism heading into second half.

However the Clyda team set out their stall early in the second half and with the Referee’s interpretation of the tackle leaving this viewer confused, Clyda were getting all the momentum and as the long journey ( after a long school day) fatigue impacted, the Bantry lads tired chasing runs from all over, Clyda ran in a couple more goals leaving the full time score 4-15 to 2-09 with Bantry’s second goal coming from Jack Sheedy.

The score line does not reflect the competitiveness of this fixture and the effort the Bantry lads put in with serious fight coming from Midfield, Mark Og and Jack leading the charge and Fionn flawless on frees.

On reflection this was a great campaign for the Bantry team with only nine lads on the age, five more U17 and six U16. With a young panel they were never found wanting for effort and showed real promise with some excellent football.
