Bantry started very strong in this u16 league fixture against Kilmacabea/St. James in Wolfe tone park, Conor Sheedy scoring with just 13 seconds on the clock after some great work from James Cronin to win the throw in and get Bantry on the front foot early. Bantry tagged on some well worked scores with Ronan Kennan, Corey O’Sullivan and Joey Sheehan in particular leading the line well. Their momentum was halted however with 2 quick fire goals from their opposition who stuck in the fight and lead half way through the half by a few points. Trading score for score it took a last minute goal from Joey Sheehan for Bantry to be ahead at the break by a solitary point. 1-9 to 2-5 at the break. The visitors started the second half on a high with a well taken goal giving them the lead again where they stayed, until a spirited comeback in the last 15 minutes of the half turned the tide for Bantry with 3 goals from James Cronin, Joey Sheehan and Cillian O’Sullivan getting the young blues over the line by a final score of 4-11 to 3-9. Overall, a great start to the league campaign with a spirited fighting performance from the young men in blue.
