Our Adult Ladies were looking to make a positive start to this year's Junior A County Championship campaign when they faced Douglas at home in the park last Sunday afternoon.
In a fiercely competitive game it was Douglas who started the better with a pointed free in the third minute but Bantry replied immediately with a well taken goal. Both sides traded points before Bantry again found the back of the Douglas net on eleven minutes. With both teams well matched this was always going to be a tight affair and indeed both teams registered goals in the twenty seventh minute to leave the girls in blue leading by two points at half time on a scoreline of 3.2 to 1.6.
The second half of this game proved to be just as competitive with Douglas registering the first two points inside seven minutes before Bantry got off the mark with a point in the eight minute.
Two more points followed for Douglas and when they scored two quickfire goals in the eighteenth and twentieth minutes they took the lead for the first time in this game.
Bantry however stuck to their task and another point on twenty one minutes kept them in the hunt.
Douglas were now dropping players behind the ball but Bantry's persistence paid off when they goaled on twenty seven minutes to lead by the narrowest of margins and a well converted penalty in injury time saw them over the line for a great win.
A positive start to this year's County campaign for the girls in blue who now face Rockbán away from home on Sunday 25th in the next round.
