Our Adult Ladies travelled to Rath last Wednesday evening to face Ilen Rovers in this year's Division 2 West Cork semi final.
Bantry were looking to build on their recent County league success but it would be Ilen Rovers who emerged victorious after a great game of football.
To say Ilen Rovers started this game strongly would be an understatement. They blitzed Bantry in the opening fifteen minutes to register 2.4 without reply.Bantry opened their account with a point in the eighteenth minute and would register only two more points in the first half despite having some good goal chances to leave them trailing at half time on a scoreline of 2.5 to 0.3.
Ilen Rovers started well again after the break with two points inside two minutes but Bantry upped their game and replied with two well taken points in the fourth and fifth minutes.
Both teams were giving it their all and were matching each other for scores, picking off some great points at both ends of the field. Some fine saves from the Bantry goalkeeper kept them in the hunt and a goal in the twenty eight minute lead to a frantic finish to this game.
Time was not in their favour however and Ilen Rovers were able to hold out for the win.
A valiant effort from the girls in blue who gave it their all on the night and were always facing an uphill battle after a poor start.
They now move onto County Championship where hopefully brighter days await.
