In a low scoring game which was largely spoiled by a strong cross field wind it was Middleton who emerged victorious on the day.
It was Bantry who started the brightest with a Sophie o Donnell pointed free in the second minute and it would be the nineteenth minute before the next score of the game would arrive courtesy of a well taken point from the hard working Emma Harrington.
Bantry were defending well with the full back line of Olivia Minehane,Polina Popenko and Ruby Coleman all putting in a serious effort in front of goalkeeper Layla Rose Kingston Fitzgerald who also made a couple of great saves to deny Middleton the opportunity to open their account. The wind however was a big factor in this game resulting in a lot of wayward passing from both teams and keeping scoring chances to a minimum.
Despite this Middleton pounced for three goals in a two minute period before half time to leave them leading 3.0 to 0.2 at half time.
Scores again were at a premium in the second half with both teams giving it everything despite the windy conditions.
Bantry's midfield pairing of Caragh McCarthy and Kacey Cotter were winning a lot of ball as was the half forward line of Anna Russell,Sophie o Donnell and Kate Creedon but were struggling to convert and it was Middleton who opened the scoring in the fifth minute of the second half. They followed up with another point on nine minutes before Emma Harrington found the net with a fine goal which was to be Bantry's only score of the half in the eleventh minute.
Bantry had a couple of goal chances but were denied by some last gasp defending from Middleton and indeed there was to be only one more score in this game when Middleton again pointed in the twenty first minute.
To their credit the girls in Blue gave it their all in difficult conditions but it just wasn't to be on the day.
They can now look forward to the u13 Summer league after a very competitive West Cork and County campaign.
A huge thanks to Middleton who kindly provided refreshments for the players, coaches and parents after the game.It was very much appreciated.
