Our u16 ladies started their 2024 league campaign with a trip to Ballinspittle to play Courcey Rovers in the first game of the group stage of the West Cork championship. Up a grade from last year it was always going to need a huge effort from all the girls to get the desired result. Bantry started brightly with a lot of possession but their shooting was a little rusty until Faye Hurley broke the deadlock in 8th minute. More scores followed from Ciara Kelly, Faye and Belle O’Donoghue with goals from Caoimhe McCarthy and Faye with great turnovers from Lauren Connell and Ava Clancy to set up scores . This left Bantry in a good position at half time. Courceys were still battling strongly and took some lovely scores . The Bantry defence was immense anchored by Lucy Harrington and Emma Barry and it took their best efforts along with some super saves from Ella Foley to keep the opposition at bay. Scores came from Faye, Caoimhe, Ciara and Lucy Donaldson and even though Courceys scored two late goals Bantry held on for a good win.
