Hard luck to our super u16 ladies who lost out by the minimum in their county final yesterday v St Finbarrs in Clonakilty. Bantry started brightly with points from Ciara Kelly, Faye Hurley and two from Lauren Connell in the opening twelve minutes. Only at this point did St Finbarrs break down the excellent defence and raise their first white flag of the day. Shortly after this the opposition were awarded a penalty which they duly converted to level the game. Bantry’s backs were immense with superb blocking and interceptions from Amy Coughlan, Lucy Harrington and Ruth Connell. Two more excellent long range points from Faye and another from Ciara left Bantry leading 0-7 to 1-1 at half time. Lauren opened the scoring in the second half with a fine point before St Finbarrs broke through for their second goal. A nasty facial injury to the tenacious Emma Barry required a shuffle in the backs . Belle O’Donoghue scored a point for the Blues before St Finbarr’s scored their third goal. This pushed them in from for the first time in the game. Aoidhe Murphy and Caoimhe McCarthy both scored points but it was not to be for the Bantry Blues ladies as they lost out by 0-11 to 3-3. A cruel score line to lose on but the girls can hold their heads high after a fantastic team performance . They left everything on the pitch and can have no regrets. Most of the panel played three finals in seven days which is testament to the quality and depth of the team. Well done to all the girls!
