Our Junior Ladies travelled to Dunmanway for the final game of their Junior A County championship round robin series against Dohenys this afternoon.

Dohenys started the stronger with a pointed free inside the first minute and quickly followed with another from play before Megan McSweeny pounced on a loose pass from the Dohenys goalkeeper to open Bantry's account with a well taken goal in the fourth minute.

This seemed to spur on the Dohenys and they scored three unanswered points before Caitlin o Mahony registered Bantry's next score with a super point in the fifteenth minute.

Both teams were giving it their all but Dohenys found scores easier to come by and but for two superb saves from outstanding goalkeeper Seadhna o Sullivan Bantry could have found themselves well in arrears at half time.

A Sarah Bishop free kept them well in contention and they went in at half time trailing on a scoreline of 0.9 to 1.2.

The second half was again well contested by both sides but Dohenys were proving to be more accurate in front of the posts. They registered the first two points of the half before Aoife Kingston finished off a good move from the girls in blue with a well taken point on eight minutes.

Outstanding defensive play from Kate McCarthy and Bernadette o Flynn kept Bantry in the fight but two more points from the Dohenys gave them a healthy lead going into the final quarter.

Bantry were reduced to fourteen players when Sarah Bishop was shown a harsh black card by the referee but driven on by Laura o Sullivan and the midfield duo of Emma Spillane and Eve Murphy Bantry were still putting in a great effort.

Having introduced fresh legs off the bench Bantry kept pressing forward and a great team move was finished to the net by Jessica Gleeson who had made a gut busting run all the way from her own full back line to give Bantry a lifeline.

Dohenys however were now starting to turn the screw and four unanswered points to close out the game saw them victorious on a scoreline of 0.16 to 2.3.

This was again a battling performance from the girls in blue who showed great fighting spirit on the day and after a fine league campaign can count themselves a bit unlucky in some of this year's championship outings.

Their year ends after today's game and its been a year of ups and downs but well done to all the players who put in a serious effort this season.
