It is with great sadness we learned of the passing of Margaret Russell, mother of our Ladies Club Chairman Mike Russell. Mike is highly involved with our u12, minor and junior teams as a coach/selector. Margaret is also grandmother of our club players Fionn, Katie, Paddy and Anna and mother in law of Gerdie Barry.
As a mark of respect all Bantry Blues ladies club trainings and games are suspended for Friday and Saturday. To show our support for the Russell family there will be a guard of honour from Bantry Blues after Margaret’s funeral mass at 12 noon tomorrow Saturday. Please wear a Bantry Blues top.

On September 7th 2023, unexpectedly but peacefully in the presence of her family and in the loving care of staff at Aperee Living, Bantry. Margaret, beloved wife of the late Paddy and partner of the late Danny Murphy, adored mother of John, Patrick, Jacinta (Barry), Mary (Dix), Mike and Majella (Rooney), dear sister of Bridget and the late Patricia. Sadly missed by her family, sons-in-law Gerdy, Phil and Gary, daughters-in-law Helen, Claire and Sarintina, grandchildren, Darren, Emma, Aaron, Laura, Russell, Liadh, Sophie, Fionn, Katie, Priya, Paddy, Lucy-Belle, Amelia, Anna and Alfie, brother-in-law Jackie and his wife Sheila, sister-in-law Jenny, nephews, relatives, and a large circle of friends.

Reposing in Coakley’s Funeral Home, Chapel St, Bantry on Friday Sept. 8, from 6pm followed by vigil prayers at 8pm. Funeral cortege will leave her home on Saturday Sept. 9, at 10.30am approx. for requiem Mass at 12 noon at St. Finbarr’s Church, Bantry (to view live stream click here) followed by burial in the Abbey Cemetery. Family flowers only. Donations in lieu if desired to the Friends of Bantry General Hospital, c/o Bantry General Hospital.
