Our Minor ladies continued their league campaign against a very strong Dohenys team in the park on Thursday evening.
Bantry got off to a flying start with Aoife Kingston bagging 1.1 inside the first two minutes and when Lauren Connell scored a well worked goal in the seventh minute the girls in blue looked to be in complete control of this game.
Dohenys however had other ideas and slowly grew in confidence. They registered two points before Aoidhe Murphy goaled for Bantry in the sixteenth minute but this was to be Bantry's last score of the half with Doheny's hitting a purple patch to score 2.6 leaving them leading at half time on a scoreline of 2.8 to 3.1
The second half saw Dohenys continuing to dominate affairs scoring three unanswered points before Aoidhe Murphy scored her second goal on sixteen minutes to give Bantry a lifeline but the girls from Dunmanway replied immediately with their third goal to again take a big advantage on the scoreboard.
Uncharacteristic wayward passing was to be Bantry's downfall and that final pass to unlock the Doheny's defence was proving to be elusive but in fairness to the girls they kept working hard when their defence was under serious pressure with Kelly Daly,Cliodhna o Shea and Daisy o Donoghue putting in a great effort.
Aoife Kingston added two further points for Bantry before Dohenys got their fourth goal in the twenty fifth minute to put the result of this game in no doubt with Aoidhe Murphy tacking on a late point for Bantry but Dohenys ran out winners on a scoreline of 4.13 to 4.4 on this occasion.
Next up for these girls is Kinsale next Wednesday evening at 6.30pm at home in the park.
