Jun B’s land Championship win over neighbours Muintir Bhaire

In a local derby Championship fixture it was always going to be a tight affair. The blues started well with Daniel Murray on fire with three points before Muintir Bhaire found their range. The blues had control of the game but couldn’t shake off their near neighbours. Stephen Coughlan scored a magnificent 45, after a Daniel Murray shot at goal was saved by the opposition keeper. Young Michael ODonovan hit a beautiful shot from long range to split the posts & his fellow teenager, Jack Sheedy ended the half with three points to his name having made a lot of running winning ball. At the break it was double scores, to the Blues .

Muintir Bhaire started the second half with fire in their bellies, raising the white flag in the opening minute.Both teams tried to play possession, and traded scores, with the blues bringing on fresh legs to up the tempo, while Murray & Sheedy added to their scoring tally. With 5 minutes remaining and the blues eight points to the good, following another Daniel Murray point, Muintir Bhaire won a long kickout, and at the end of a couple of plays rattled the net. This brought a little hope to Muintir Bhaire with five to play. The blues dominated possession for the remainder of the game, but couldn’t add to their score, with Jack Sheedy having a shot blocked out for a 45, and the resultant kick going wide. Liam Coakley was unlucky in the dying minutes to see a rasped of a shot rebound out off the upright.

Next up for the Blues is Clann Na Gael on the 9th Sept at 6:30 in Ballydehob – a win here should see direct qualification for the Championship semi finals
