Our Junior Ladies made the trip to Skibbereen on Sunday for their second game in this years Junior A County championship series.
Playing with a slight wind advantage in the first half Bantry found themselves trailing to an opening point on four minutes from Skibbereen before Eve Murphy opened Bantry's account in the sixth minute with a well taken point.
Skibbereen were now playing some nice football and scored five unanswered points before Megan McSweeny scored a fine goal in the fifteenth minute to keep the girls in blue in touch.
This spurred on Banty and further points from Molly o Sullivan,Zara Barry and Aoife Kingston followed but Skibbereen were also racking up the scores and a well worked goal in the twenty sixth minute saw them leading at half time on a scoreline of 2.8 to 1.4.
Both teams traded points at the start of the second half before Skibbereen again goaled in the seventh minute to leave Bantry facing an uphill battle.
The girls in blue however were not going to lie down and another fine goal from Megan McSweeny gave them a vital lifeline.
Skibbereen however were now growing in confidence and despite some fine defensive work from Cliodhna o Shea, Bernadette o Flynn and Jessica Gleeson again hit five unanswered points to take control of this game.
Bantry never stopped competing with Laura o Sullivan working tirelessly and their efforts paid off with a opportunist goal from Mairead Dullea on twenty nine minutes which was followed up by a point from the returning Rachel Murphy but Skibbereen proved to be the better team on this occasion winning on a scoreline of 4.15 to 3.7
Next up for this team is a home game v Middleton on Sunday next at 12:30 which is a must win to keep their championship hopes alive.
