On a beautiful Sunday morning we were entertained by a very close competitive early season encounter with our Beara neighbours, Garnish. The Garnish lads started strong getting rewarded with scores early on whenever they attacked unlike the hosts who found scoring difficult in the opening qtr. Some great saves by James Crowley ensured the Blues has a clean sheet in the first half. However as the half went on, they started to play with a lot more pacey running leading to scores with some great attacking& scoring by the young Jack Sheedy. A brilliant run out of defence by Matthew Barry supported by fellow defender Cathal Power who slipped around the Garnish defence to receive a pass from Matthew & then rattled the net , this being the difference at the break

HT; Bantry Blues 1:06 V 0:06

The second half started with Garnish again dominating the opening quarter but the Blues fought hard and and matched each of Garnishs scores. As the blues started to dominate, the Garnish lads against the run of play rattled the Blues net to level the game . The Blues didn’t panic and soon after a brilliant run out of defence by Mark Óg OSullivan straight down the centre of the pitch at great speed split the opposition in two and a layoff as he hit the 20 m line left Conn OCallaghan in a great scoring position which he took advantage of to rattle the net. In the closing play of the game, with the Blues leading by 3 points, Garnish won a 45. The resultant kick was driven on a low trajectory, hitting the crossbar with an in running Garnish player first to react and finish to the back of the net To level the game .
